ICT & Computing

Our department aims to provide pupils with a range of ICT and Computing experiences so that they can become competent individuals who can contribute to the digital society.

The curriculum offered to pupils in our department continues to evolve with the latest developments. We have intruded full computing at Key stage 3. In Key stage 4 we run both GCSE and BTEC ICT with the option to run Computing. We are now offering the new BTEC ICT alongside Cambridge Tec ICT qualification in our Sixth Form. 

Key Stage 3 Computing

Year 7:- 1 hour per week

  • Digital Literacy Lessons
  • Introduction to Coding Logo/Scratch
  • BBC Microbit Coding
  • App Prototyping

Year 8:- 1 hour per week

  • Digital Literacy Lessons
  • Algorithm Design
  • NXT Robotics Programming
  • Introduction to advanced languages (Python)

Key Stage 4 ICT

CTEC ICT: Year 9 +10

CiDA : Year 10 + 11

GCSE ICT: Year  11

This option runs for 3 hours per week and allows pupils the opportunity to study these 3 units:-

Unit 1: Living in a Digital World - students explore how digital technology impacts on the lives of individuals, organisations and society. This unit is assessed through an externally assessed examination.

Unit 2: Using Digital Tools - This is a practical unit in which pupils broaden and enhance their ICT skills and capability in a given context. Pupils complete 20 hours of controlled assessment in this unit.
