MFL Department Home Learning Policy

At all levels, we make it our priority to instil in pupils an ethos of “little and often,” as this is the most effective way to learn a language. We highly recommend independent, free-choice revision for roughly five to ten minutes per day. Below is a selection of websites we suggest:

In addition to this, the following compulsory home learning is set weekly:

Linguists in years 7 and 8 have access to Active Learn. All pupils have an individualised username and password. The tasks on Active Learn directly link to the curriculum and both build upon and strengthen knowledge gained in lessons. The activities provide pupils with the opportunity to develop their reading and listening skills at home.

At Key Stage 4, home learning takes a variety of forms. The department gives each pupil bespoke booklets to guide them through each element of the GCSE exams: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. When appropriate, pupils are set tasks on Active Learn; alternatively, pupils receive worksheets or are directed to complete key sections of their booklets.
