Many congratulations to the cast and crew of Don Valley Academy & Performing Arts College on their fantastic production! I’d like to highlight a few things from this group that stood out, wowed the audience and made this Shakespeare Schools Festival night an evening to remember.

This was an intense production bringing the world of Ancient Rome and Egypt to life for a captivated audience. You gripped the audience from start to finish and took them on a rollacoster and into the world of the play.

The use of movement and sound within the piece was exceptional, with the cast creating epic sea battles using nothing but their sheer performance skill to get their message across. This performance was fantastically stylish, with wonderful images and a great use of physical theatre and ensemble work. The cast’s brilliant characterisations throughout meant the audience were really invested in the relationships between

the characters and their emotional journeys. This play boldly and seamlessly used two actors playing Cleopatra which work really well and added to this production finesse and a slick style.

All members of the cast were fully committed to their characters, giving the audience a masterful display of their acting talent. The cast gave brave and emotionally mature performances, displaying a real understanding of the text and narative, and infusing it with meaning and emotion to help the audiences follow this tradgic and epic tale.

This was a thoroughly entertaining and energy fuelled production of Anthony and Cleopatra performed with great commitment by a talented cast. This was honestly the most enjoyable Anthony and Cleopatra I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

"It's a significant achievement to do something as difficult and aspirational as perform one of Shakespeare's plays on a professional stage. Everyone who's taken part should be so proud of themselves."
