    Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we have experienced difficulties with the gas supply in the academy kitchen. Hot food will be available, however we are unable to serve the normal planned menu until we move into the new build in November. A selection of cold food will still be available to purchase as usual.

    We are delighted to have recorded the BEST GCSE RESULTS in the history of Don Valley Academy!

    Our headline figures are as follows:

    57% students achieved 5A* - C including maths and English

    62% students achieved A* - C in maths

    71.5% students achieved A* - C in English

    100% students achieved A* - C in GCSE dance

    91.2% students achieved A* - C in art and design

    80.6% students achieved A* - C in PE GCSEs

    80% students achieved A* - C in drama

    80% students achieved A* - C in music

    80% geography

    All above are GCSE A*-C 

  • Jossey Lane Entrance Closed

    From Monday 4th July the Jossey Lane entrance into the academy will be closed due to Health and Safety reasons and additional building works. Entrance and exit to the academy will be via Stonehill Rise only.

  • STEM 2

    STEM Celebration

    20th June 2016

    On Wednesday 15th June a group of Year 9 and 10 students attended the STEM celebration in Rotherham to compete in an Engineering event.

    Students were showcasing work that they had been producing in the academy and were also able to compete to get their name on the tail of the Bloodhound land speed record car. Two of our pupils  managed to win this competition by building the air powered car that went the furthest.

    #Futureideas – Don Valley Students, National Careers Week and Careers Education!

    Students in Year 7, 8 and 10 have, in recent weeks taken part in stimulating activities to further their knowledge and understanding of careers, the world of work and employability skills.

    South Yorkshire Indoor Sportshall Competition

    Congratulations to all students who attended the South Yorkshire Indoor Sportshall Competition on Wednesday 9th March.
     
    All teams performed well and had a brilliant experience!

    DV Ski Trip – Courmayeur February 2016

    16th February 2016

    On 6th February 27 students and 4 members of staff left Don Valley to embark on the half term ski trip to Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley, Italy. After departing DV at 4pm we then made the 20 hour journey through England and France, eventually passing through the Mont Blanc tunnel and arriving in Courmayeur at lunch time on Sunday 7th Feb.

    After a quick lunch we then made our way up the gondola for the first time to have our boots and ski’s fitted. The forecast for the week was snow, snow and more snow.

    On 11th January at Sheffield Hallam University, 3 talented hopefuls, aged between 12 and 16, took up the challenge to showcase their fantastic cooking skills and battled it out to win their Local Final gaining a place in the Regional Final and getting one step closer to the National Final on the 14th March 2016.

    Don Valley student Elliot Sprakes recently took centre stage in his first major role in a new David Walliams adaptation. Elliot hit our screens on New Years Day as the star of Billionaire Boy, a classic rags-to-riches story.

    Elliot had four auditions before being given the role. Four weeks of filming followed in Sheffield, Rotherham and London, which was complete in October.

  • Barcelona Trip 2016

    Deposits are now being accepted for Barcelona 2016. Parents/carers may make deposits only via. ParentPay once children have returned permission slips. If pupils have lost their letters, they need to pick up a new one from Miss Parkinson in L13. Initial deposits of £100 need to be in by Friday 11th September 2015. The total cost of the trip will be £513. If there is not enough interest in the trip, the trip will be cancelled and parents/carers will be refunded their deposit.

    The Carnegie Book Award is designed to celebrate quality literature for young people and the standard of books on the shortlist each year certainly fulfils that remit.  As ever, this years’ selection were a challenging mix, covering themes as diverse as personal identity, parenting, racism, family relationships and the challenges faced by a young teenager suffering from Tourettes Syndrome.
