  • UK Maths Challenge

    Talented mathematicians rise to the challenge

    Our A-Level pupils recently competed in the UK Maths Challenge.

    The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old UK school pupils.

    Four of our Year 12 students were successful in achieving a certificate. One student won best in school and achieved a silver award and three were awarded with bronze awards.


  • Democracy Empowers the Youth of Don Valley!

    Active citizenship was in abundance as Don Valley student population elected their Student Parliament on Thursday 16th October.  The school hall was transformed into a polling station and a team of tireless Year 10 students worked to simulate a real election.  Form representatives valiantly battled for the honour of a seat on the Student Parliament, with poster campaigns and entertaining speeches delivered in assembly.

  • Ski Trip 2014

    On 22nd February 30 students and 5 members of staff started their journey to Pila in Italy for the first ski trip the school has run in over a decade. Students ranging from Y8 to Y13, many of whom would be experiencing the sport for the first time would spend 6 days on the slopes of the Italian Alps.

    Bicycle Storage

    17th January 2014

    All bicycles must be placed in the lockable bicycle storage unit during the academy day.  The unit will be locked at 9.00 a.m. and unlocked  at 2.45 p.m.

    Please do not leave your bicycle locked up against the fences.

    All bicycles brought onto the academy site remain the responsibility of the students and the academy accepts no responsibility for damage or theft to bicycles which have not been stored in the unit.

    Dr Who and the Dalek at Don Valley

    To celebrate this November’s 50th Anniversary of Dr Who, Don Valley library held a special workshop with Dr Who author, Daniel Blythe.  Daniel has written two of the BBC Dr Who novelizations, has met many of the Doctors over the years and is an expert on the programme, with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Dr Who trivia!  To add even more excitement, we also had a visit from a full-size and scary-looking Dalek.   One of our parents, is featured in the Guinness book of records as having the world’s largest coll

    The Doncaster Regional Alliance for Teacher Training (secondary) DRAFTTs is an alliance of Doncaster Secondary schools, academies, Special schools & Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) working collaboratively to deliver high quality teacher training.

    Shakespeare Schools Festival 2013

    On Thursday 17th October, Drama students at Don Valley Academy took part in their sixth year of Shakespeare Schools Festival.

    The day began with a dress performance for Year 5 and 6 students from our primaries. The young audience enjoyed the comedy of Twelfth Night and the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Our main school and Sixth Form students then travelled to the Leeds Carriageworks for a professional style technical and dress rehearsal on the stage.

    September went out with a bang at the library, as we held a special ‘Battle of the Books’ workshop with Dave Cryer.  This was a special event to prepare some of our students to perform on stage at the new CAST theatre as part of the launch of the 10th Doncaster Book Award.

    Pupils in South Yorkshire are being encouraged to plan their journey to school by public transport using Travel South Yorkshire’s dedicated travel website for pupils, parents and teachers.

    Onboard is an educational website that promotes the benefits of public transport and helps young people be more confident and aware of how to safely use it.

  • Don Valley Academy Trip to Paris

    We had been counting down the sleeps for weeks until finally, in the (very) early hours of Friday 15th March, 45 bleary eyed pupils and 5 yawning members of staff boarded the coach that would take us to France.  The first “are we nearly there yet?” came just north of Cambridge but pupils showed remarkable patience and good spirits during the long journey to Paris.  We stayed in purpose built accommodation in the grounds of the Château de Grande Romaine, about 30 minutes from the centre of Paris.

    Grease was definitely ‘the word’ for this years main school production. The lower school hall was transported back to 50’s America for three magical nights of burger eating, drive-in movies, beauty therapy and a rumble with The Flamin Dukes thrown in for good measure.
