Last week, the geography department took students in Y10 to Hornsea on the Holderness Coastline to complete their data collection for the fieldwork component of their Paper 3 examination. Students went to examine the sea defences and had to make a judgement on how effective they were at reducing erosion to the cliffs.
Many measurements were taken in the groups to see the visible height of the groyne and field sketches were also done to compare two contrasting areas of the beach where sea defences had and had not been built. The students really enjoyed seeing what they had learned about in class in real life and were fortunate for the glorious sunshine that they had, making the fieldtrips enjoyable and a total success for everyone involved.
